I tried KDE, XFCE, GNOME, MATE, LXDE, LXQT, bspwm, XMonand, awesome... and single one of them has fought with me, one way or another and I always find myself coming back to Pantheon and it's beautifully minamalist-but-not-too-much interface, practical control scheme and awesome curated collection of apps, while also not being so pushy. It also runs amazingly on Fedora, which surprised me...
with all do seriousness, though even compared to something like ARM, x86 sucks absolute ass. but, at least from what i've heard, compilers have gotten okay enough to the point where you can basically forget the ISA you're using is a complete dumpster fire (sometimes literally)
